Scores Are In

Chaithra made my day a few nights ago when she called me from Bangalore to tell me 12th grade ISC Biology exam results... All were 80% or better!!!

Way to go!

Tam-lish?

English is a little different here. Some phrases 9th grade and I thought we'd share:

"current" = electricity
"torch" = flashlight
"My pen got over" = My pen is out
"Toilet is coming urgently" = I really have to use the restroom
"My mother put me to learn Tamil" = My mom made me learn Tamil
"Ayyo ayyo" = (frustrated filler noise)
"Now nothing comes" = nothing comes to mind
"Yes. No?" = Right?
"Yes. Came" = I just thought of what I was going to say
"Miss, it's paining!" = Miss, it really hurts! May I go to the nurse?
"Can you put music?" = Can you turn the music on?
"I'm going to say about you" = I'm going to tell on you
"Correct!" = (shouted while playing a sport and hitting the ball in play instead of foul)
"Now only we came" = We just got here
"I have a doubt" = I have a question
"ponkie" = (This one is a little subversive. Email me and I will share with you its meaning and a story.)
